Maternity Clothes FAQs

What size should I buy?
Choose your usual pre-pregnancy size in everything that you buy. Well designed maternity clothes by worldwide respected and established suppliers such as Noppies and Boob have been developed over many years and tested to fit in all the areas where you grow during your pregnancy ie. bump, bust, hips, back and thighs. Do not buy the next size unless you are putting on a lot of weight.

When should I buy my maternity wear?
We get asked this a lot - and the easy answer is buy it whenever you grow out of your normal clothes. That can be anywhere between 6 weeks to 26 weeks pregnant. Our maternity wear stretches and grows with you throughout your pregnancy to make the most of your growing bump. Be proud to show it off under our longer, fitted tops!
NB. Please always bear in mind that the earlier you buy your maternity clothing, the more wear you will get out of it! It is better to buy it and start wearing it, than put it off and ruin your normal clothes by stretching them out of shape.

Can't I just buy a bigger size in normal clothes?
This is a very easy mistake to make. You are 10 weeks pregnant - it's far too early to be buying maternity wear isn't it? Let's just buy a bigger size for the next few weeks. It's a false economy. You can go through six different sizes during your pregnancy just to fit things around your belly & boobs and you will spend six times more money. And the clothes don't fit your shoulders, arms, hips or legs. They make you look bigger everywhere when you aren't - you are pregnant.

Cheap Maternity Wear
You will have found shops that offer maternity wear at an incredibly cheap price. You probably think that it is worth it because you are going to wear these items for such a short time. But during your pregnancy you will buy fewer items and wear them a lot more. Cheap items will fall apart, stretch out of shape and no longer fit you at the end of your pregnancy. I have done this myself; I bought items from a couple of high street shops and grew out of them at 6 months. I was not happy about having to go out again and buy new clothes to last for the last 3 months.

What should I buy?
Many women buy a smart pair of trousers for work/evenings & a pair of jeans early on in their pregnancy. Then they start adding for fun! You don't need to buy loads - maybe a different colour pair of trousers or a skirt. Then a few tops to co-ordinate. A couple of bras & some underwear to be comfortable. Maybe a dress for social occasions. Then a couple more tops. Whatever you would normally spend in a season, invest it in your maternity wardrobe. You won't be disappointed & you will wear it a lot over the few months that you are pregnant. You will also be able to wear it for the first few months after the birth of your baby.

What makes a maternity top different?
They are longer at the front so that they don't ride up as your bump grows. Also the side seams are set further back so that there is more fabric at the front but the back sits normally.

Isn't maternity wear a waste of money?
You may have 5 - 6 pairs of trousers and jeans. Suddenly they don't fit. So you buy a pair of maternity trousers and a pair of maternity jeans. You will be wearing them everyday for the next 4 or 5 months and after the birth of your baby. You will wear them more than any other item in your wardrobe, ever.

Isn't maternity wear a bit frumpy?
We have non-pregnant customers who buy our clothes when they visit with their expecting friends. It is fashionable, up-to-date and extremely comfortable.

Will my maternity wear last right through?
Our maternity wear has been designed to last from early in your pregnancy until the birth of your baby. It needs to be good quality to go the distance. Do you want shrinking, bobbling or twisted seams? As with everything, you get what you pay for.

Can I wear it after the birth of my baby?
If you are one of the lucky few, you'll get straight back into your normal clothes after you have had your baby. However for the rest of us it can take months to get back into our usual size. Our maternity wear adapts so that you can continue to wear it after the birth of your baby.

Our experience.
Having been in the business of selling and wearing maternity wear for fourteen years, we choose garments, knowing where pressure areas may occur on items when they are worn throughout a pregnancy. We now only select and stock items that we know will see you through the five or six months in which you need maternity wear.

By selecting these high quality clothes, we know that you will look smart every day for work, at a wedding or for going on holiday. Our items are designed to last - usually our items are passed on to family or friends for their pregnancy after our customer has had their baby. It is also now common for our special occasion or more expensive items to be sold on ebay. Ebay is an ideal place to sell an item that has only been worn once or twice as you then have an international market looking for a specific item. You also will get a good return on the item that you have purchased. We know this from previous customers experiences.

We have always been a small business which is incredibly committed to personal service, has experience of wearing and selling maternity wear for over 14 years and a knowledge of our customers wants and needs. 90% of our customers are recommended by previous happy shoppers. We intend to keep it that way!
